Thank you for being part of the VFX Voice global community. We’re proud to be connected through stories of artistry and innovation all around the world, especially during these difficult times. Filmed entertainment unites us all, especially while we’re apart. So thank you for your inspiring work and demonstrations of support.
In this issue, we go deep inside the resurgence of practical effects. We introduce you to a couple of dynamic duos – Cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, ASC and Visual Effects Supervisor Rob Legato, ASC on their latest collaboration, The Lion King, and Production Visual Effects Supervisor Roger Guyett and Special Effects Supervisor Dominic Tuohy on Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. We’ve got TV/streaming features on Watchmen, The Expanse and Solar Opposites, and, on the big screen, we offer features on much-anticipated films Tenet and Mulan. We profile FatBelly VFX Head of Studio Shannan Louis, Special Effects Supervisor J.D. Schwalm and Cinematographer/Developer Matt Workman. Our Tech & Tools section looks at case studies in working remotely during the pandemic, as well as how remote technology has swiftly adapted and evolved. We examine Social VR trends and the surge in video games, and we continue to shine a light on our regional sections with our profile of VES India and VFX in the heart of Bollywood.
