Eric Roth, VES Executive Director

Welcome to the Summer issue of VFX Voice!

In this issue, we take a closer look at a few major luminaries and our esteemed honorees recognized earlier this year at the 17th Annual VES Awards – Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Chris Meledandri, Visionary Award recipient Jonathan Nolan and Creative Excellence Award recipients David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. We also sit down with legendary producer and director Roger Corman, ‘The Pope of Pop Culture.’

In the exploding field of television visual effects, we go inside Black Mirror, The Umbrella Academy, The Orville, and juggernaut Game of Thrones as the transformational series comes to an end. We take a look at Aladdin and the world of Immersive Cinema, and preview Cool Summer VFX Films and TV. We herald the much-anticipated opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands, and shine a light on cutting-edge trends, including mocap suits and advances in VR. And continuing our review of VES worldwide, we spotlight the VES Washington Section, one of our beacons of VFX (along with Vancouver) in the Pacific Northwest.

We’re continuing to bring you exclusive stories between issues that are only available online at VFXVoice.com. You can also get VFX Voice and VES updates by following us on Twitter at @VFXSociety.

Thank you for your continued support of VFX Voice, the definitive authority on all things VFX.
